Is This The Future?
Well you piled on the student loans, learned how to chug a beer through a funnel, and sat through required classes about photosynthesis and the meaning of life because you believed in the system of education. Or at the very least your parents believed in the system.
But with hundreds of thousands of college kids graduating this year how secure is that future?
After all, last week the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the May job report which showed that the economy shed 49,000 jobs for the 5th consecutive month. Making it a combined total job loss of 324,000 jobs this year.
So with summer quickly approaching, it might look like a doom and gloom labor market for those grads who are afraid that they’re going to remain jobless and living in their parent’s home.
That’s why I have good news.
All those bong hits, one-night stands, and drunken stupors that left you passed out on the fraternity floor paid off. Because despite the downturn in the economy, the job outlook for college graduates is good. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers are expected to hire 18% more college graduates than last year.
So Congratulatins to the Class of 2008!
(It’s the rest of us that are fucked.)
