Old vs New

South Hampton is separated from East Hampton by a five mile country road that stretches through patches of farmland, million dollar homes, and quaint little antique shops that import china, furniture, and custom built lamps from London and France.

They say that South Hampton is old money. And that East Hampton is new money, but really the only difference between old money and new money is that with old money someone a hundred years ago figured out how to amass a fortune and since then the family has spawned off child after child the that feeds upon the wealth as if it were their entitlement. Never taking it upon themselves to work and create their own wealth.

New money on the other hand is the opposite.

New money was created within the last thirty years by businessmen, who strived to be part of the old money crowd. But of course, once they made their money they soon learned that old money looks down upon new money.

So the new money moved to East Hampton and the old stayed in South. Always fighting to keep the new money out, and never accepting the real truth that all money is just the same.
