The Week
A lot of creepy things happened this week. The stock market crashed. John McCain and Barack Obama had a really creepy town hall debate. Sarah Palin held a rally where people began chanting Obama death threats. And the government decided to lend insurance giant AIG another 35 Billion. But since I can only pick one story, this week’s 365 Award goes to Kelsey Peterson.
Kelsey Peterson is a 26 year old woman who was sentenced this past week to six years in prison for federal charges of traveling with a person younger than 18 to have sex. She was charged with kidnapping, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, felony child abuse and two counts of first degree sexual assault of a child. If convicted of the kidnapping charge, Peterson could face a maximum of life in prison.
Peterson was a six grade math teacher who first gained notoriety a year ago when she fled to Mexico with her 12 year old student Fernando Rodriguez. According to authorities, Peterson thought that she could have a legal sexual relationship with her student if she stayed in Mexico.
And people wonder why there’s an education crisis in this country.
