The Week
A lot of things happened this week. Gays continued to protest in Los Angeles. Barack Obama offered Hilary Clinton the position of Secretary of State. And the remains of three year old Caylee Anthony were found weighted down in a Florida river. But this week’s 365 Award goes to President George W. Bush.
This past week, President Bush was awarded the Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Award. The Award is given each year to leaders who have made a significant commitment to Africa.
President Bush was honored for his efforts throughout his administration to combat disease across the continent. At the same time he has expanded U.S. development assistance through the Milennium Challenge initiative which links aid to political and economic reforms.
Leave it to Bush to start a war in Iraq, wage another one in Afghanistan, let our own economy tumble into financial ruin, and then receive a humanitarian award. That’s like getting a carbon offset for genocide.
