Who Will Win?
This is the first election since 1952 that an incumbent President or Vice President hasn’t been in the general election. Which might explain why a woman, a black man, a Mormon, a television star, two guys who believe in aliens, and a gay hating preacher have all thrown their hats into the presidential race.
The White House is up for grabs and over the last year the Democrats and the Republicans have spent tens of millions of dollars to convince American voters that the 2008 election is about change. And the truth is I don’t know what that means because the one certainty of this election is that at the end of 2008 there will be a brand new President sitting in the oval office. That is change.
Change does not always have to be dramatic. It can be subtle and unassuming. It doesn’t need a new face or voice. Because change comes from action not words. But unfortunately our politicians and pundits have become obsessed with capitalizing on the backlash from the last eight years that they’ve lost site of the issues and instead focus on the image.
So I don’t care if the next president is a woman or a smut peddling cripple; I just want to know that I’m not going to lose my house in a recession. That my job won’t get shipped to China. And that my fundamental rights as an American won’t be stripped away by some secret executive order.
Honestly, I don’t think that’s asking too much.
