Youtube Saved Politics
When people talk about great speeches they talk about Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have A Dream.” They talk about John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address. They talk about Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
They don’t talk about the person who spoke before Kennedy or the person who spoke after Dr. King or what the political analysts thought about Lincoln’s address.
I only mention it because last night marked the start of the 2008 Democratic Convention. A convention in which the Democratic Party officially selected Barack Obama to be their presidential candidate.
Over the next four days there will be one speech after another speech leading all the way to Thursday when Senator Obama officially accepts his party’s nomination.
Which is why I love Youtube. I no longer have to sit and watch hours of media coverage. Listening to political analysts tell me what I’m supposed to think. What I’m supposed to believe. What the speech meant to me. I can simply skip the entire convention, log on to Youtube, and pick and choose the speeches that I want to see.
The Internet has redefined politics for the new generation. Politics in which voters aren’t fed opinions, but are allowed to generate their own.
It is why I love Youtube. That and the occasional porn clip that sneaks past their filters.
