Welcome To New Orleans
When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, I remember looking on in horror at the flooded streets, people stranded on their rooftops, dead bodies piled outside the superdome. It was appalling, that the entire city was abandoned by the government. Now three years later and Hurricane season well under way, I’ve come to the conclusion that the people of New Orleans deserve what they get.
Since Katrina it seems that every fall begins with the annual exodus of millions of cars flooding out of the city, homes being abandoned, and people carting off their valuables.
Which only leads me to the question at what point will it sink in that the city is just unsafe to live in? Over half of New Orleans is well below sea level and it’s situated in the heart of a hurricane prone area. It’s amazing that the city wasn’t wiped out before Katrina.
The residents of New Orleans are like a battered wife that continues to return to their abusive husband knowing full well that at any point they’re going to get the shit kicked out of them again.
The first time I felt bad for the residents of the city. The second time it’s their fault for continuing to stay.

Dude.
Says the man living on a major fault line…
Many were smart and stayed the fuck away. Others crawled back to no jobs, no house, no insurance because it was their home and it was cheaper their. Cheaper? Really?
I’m with you on this. And ironically, I work for the American Red Cross.
