Why Stupid People Matter

Seven years ago, I was an ignorant college graduate who didn’t know the difference between the Republicans and Democrats. I didn’t know who the supreme court justices were. Affirmative action was for black people. Gay marriage wasn’t for me. And the only time I ever prayed was when my girlfriend thought she was pregnant.

And then George Bush was elected president. And it was sort of like getting a prostate examination, without actually being at the doctor.

From the appointment of the supreme court justices to the war in Iraq, I realized that I couldn’t just sit back and let someone force-feed me their own belief system.

And now here we are, the 2008 presidential elections upon us, the New Hampshire primary tonight, and for the first time in my life the election isn’t some frivolous high school popularity contest. Instead it’s about choosing a candidate who best supports the key issues that I personally find important.

So President Bush, I truly want to thank you for your amazing ability to blindly offend and polarize the voters of our nation. If it wasn’t for you, I still might be the same ignorant, beer chugging kid I used to be.

You are true proof that stupid people matter.

2 Observations for “January 8th, 2008”

  1. I always thought it was cool that you could vote for President of the United States even though you were thousands of miles at sea. My first vote was for JFK, aboard a Navy ship. They set up a polling booth and had a Master At Arms guarding the whole process. No Dieboldt to worry about.

  2. I think this post is ridiculous. You claimed that when George Bush came to office you started into politics. Then you say that this election, the 2008 one, is the first one that matters. I think you may have missed the last time George Bush was elected. I’m not a George Bush fan but i think its douchy to jump on the fuck GWB (George W Bush) train right now. So its cool you want to vote, but really you should have taken into account that you could have voted in 2004 and you didn’t.
